Robert J. Avrech is a prominent writer/producer in Hollywood.
Among his numerous credits are the classic thriller “Body Double” directed by Brian De Palma, starring Melanie Griffith, “A Stranger Among Us” directed by the legendary Sidney Lumet, also starring Melanie Griffith, “Behind These Walls” starring Ellen Burstyn and Laura Dern, “Scandal in a Small Town” starring Raquel Welch, and “The Devil’s Arithmetic” starring Kirsten Dunst and Brittany Murphy, for which Avrech was awarded the prestigious Emmy award for Best Screenplay.
Avrech is also the author of the Young Adult novel The Hebrew Kid and the Apache Maiden, and the e-book memoir How I Married Karen, which tells the improbable but true story of falling in love with his wife Karen, z’l, at age 9, their slow-motion romance and blissful marriage.
Avrech attended Yeshiva Flatbush elementary school and YU’s Brooklyn Talmudic Academy. He was the first Shomer Shabbos screenwriter to work in Hollywood.
