Tamar Ish-Shalom is one of Israel’s leading journalists and news anchors, with over two decades of experience covering politics, society, and public life, and a long-standing focus on the intersection of media, leadership, and social change.
She spent more than a decade anchoring the prime-time edition of Channel 10 News (later Channel 13), where she became a central voice in Israeli broadcast journalism. In recent years, she anchored the Saturday edition and produced in- depth magazine reports, with a particular emphasis on social issues and underrepresented communities. Beyond her on-air role, she was deeply involved in shaping the editorial direction of the news edition, working closely with reporters, editors, and producers to develop stories from initial idea through broadcast. Throughout her career, she has conducted high-profile interviews with Israeli presidents, prime ministers, and senior ministers, as well as international figures. During her 11 years anchoring the flagship evening news broadcast, the program won three Israeli Academy of Film and Television Awards for Best Evening News Edition.
Ish-Shalom began her career as a police reporter at Galatz Radio, later serving as a Knesset correspondent, host of the current affairs program 24 Today, and Europe correspondent for Channel 2 News. Her work reflects a deep familiarity with Israeli society in all its complexity, as well as extensive engagement with political and institutional leadership.
Currently, she is a Senior Fellow at the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI), where she leads a flagship project examining how the events of October 7 and the ongoing war are reshaping Jewish identity in the United States. As part of this work, she created and hosts the podcast Jewish Crossroads, featuring in- depth conversations with leading public intellectuals and community figures. Ish Shalom is the recipient of the 2026 B’nai B’rith Journalism Prize and a 2026 Wilbur Award of Merit from the Religion Communicators Council, recognizing excellence in her work on the Jewish Crossroads podcast.
Alongside her research and media work, Ish-Shalom frequently moderates high- level panels and conducts public interviews at major conferences and events in the United States, engaging with senior leaders across the public, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors.
Her work has been recognized with the 2023 Givat Haviva Award for her in- depth coverage of Arab society in Israel and her contribution to advancing the values of a shared society. Earlier in her career, she received the 2008 B’nai B’rith Journalism Award for a documentary series on the changing face of American Jewry.
