Atara Vogelstein (she/her) is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Drama Therapist based in New York, providing expressive, embodied, and somatic care through individual and group psychotherapy. Atara is a graduate of NYU’s M.A. Program in Drama Therapy, The Kint Institute of the Arts Advanced Training in Trauma and Creative Arts Therapy, and member of the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA). Atara has been focusing her energies since October 7th, 2023 on carving out healing spaces in response to Israel’s regional wars, global rising antisemitism, and the absence of safer spaces for Jewish and Israeli individuals and practitioners within her field. Atara spent six months this past year volunteering in Israel and joined the efforts to reduce the ongoing impact of the war and traumas unfolding, working with soldiers, refugees, and the general public affected by 10/7 and its aftermath. Atara works with individuals and communities toward enhanced empowerment, attunement, and agency and shifting the impact of interpersonal, intergenerational, and systemic trauma and harm. Atara is currently facilitating workshops, support groups, and therapeutic theatre initiatives in the U.S. and Israel focused on deepening Jewish and Israeli emotional fluency, security, and resilience and intra-communal reliance when inter-communal reliance is not guaranteed. Atara’s grassroots project, The Zion Inn, invites guests on an immersive, therapeutic theatre journey, where connection to oneself, to one’s identities, to others, and to our shared humanity is centered in a fractured world.
In addition to her therapeutically tailored offerings this Passover, Atara will be leading a variety of dance, movement, and fitness classes focused on discovering and restoring joy and confidence through movement and body connection. Atara is a lifelong athlete and has taught dance in NYC since 2016, where she began her immersive training during college and continued her pursuit of movement as a fitness professional. Atara’s Dance Fitness classes typically fuse high energy movement with Latin, Afro, Caribbean, & Hip Hop beats. She has choreographed wedding dances and flash mobs, and has performed and choreographed on the Israeli music scene as of last year, where she featured in her first music video. Her classes and events are open to all fitness levels and she encourages all movers to move authentically with attunement to their bodies, and to deepen connections to their own rhythms within and alongside the musicality. When she’s not facilitating this Passover, don’t be surprised if you catch her battling her siblings on the tennis and basketball courts or carrying multiple nephews and nieces toward their next adventure.
